Former ABA President, Founder of World Justice Project, Wins ABA Medal...The American Bar Association’s highest honor, the ABA Medal, will be awarded to William H. Neukom, an international champion for justice who has devoted his life and career to public service, access to justice and advancing the rule of law. Neukom currently serves as founder and chief executive officer of the World Justice Project, an independent, multidisciplinary organization working to advance the rule of law worldwide. Neukom will receive the ABA Medal during the General Assembly at 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, July 29 during the ABA’s virtual Annual Meeting. The ABA Medal recognizes exceptionally distinguished service by a lawyer or lawyers to a cause of American jurisprudence.
President of Florida Bar describes last four months as 'crash course in crisis management'...“There were no road maps” Florida Bar Immediate Past President John Stewart said, referring to the pandemic shut-down in the middle of his year as President of the 107,000-member mandatory bar. Stewart and the bar’s staff were tasked with the often-urgent communication of changes in court procedures and other information vital to the licensed attorneys in Florida. “Justice just can’t grind to a halt,” Stewart said last Tuesday as he prepared to hand over the reins to now-President Dori Foster-Morales at the bar’s annual convention, held online for the first time. ABA Discusses Return to Jury Trials...Some courts have opened back up to jury trials, while others are still barring the public from entering the courthouse. Hear from two judges who have conducted jury trials in the last several weeks, explaining what they did to prepare for the trial so that their courtroom was in compliance, and how they were able to conduct the trial safely.
